2008 Quilts For Kids and CARES Northwest Auction

The date for this year’s event is December 5, 2008 (It’s always held the 2nd Friday after Thanksgiving, so the date fluctuates). Again we have some truly wonderful items for the live auction and the raffle. JillMarie Wiles will again be our auctioneer…this will make her 6th year with us! She’s entertaining as well as the best auctioneer ever!! Julianne Johnson will be our Mistress of Ceremony. She is a grammy-award winning singer and entertainer…last year she and JillMarie were a hoot together! The Luncheon will again be held at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Come at 11:00 to view the items, have a drink and chat with your friends. The raffle starts at noon with the live auction next. Net proceeds benefit CARES Northwest, an assessment center for abused and neglected children, and Quilts For Kids, an Oregon 501(c)(3) which provides fabric and batting to volunteers who make quilts for the kids seen at CARES throughout the year. Each year QFK provides about 1,000 quilts to these physically and sexually abused kids.

Quilts For Kids has been taking quilts for the children seen at CARES for 11 years! In that time almost 8,000 children have received quilts made by the amazing quilters in our community. One of my goals when founding QFK was that ALL the quilts go to kids in our own community. CARES Northwest is our home. The dedication of the quilters is mind-boggling! There are dozens of quilters who have been making quilts for these children since the beginning! I am truly in awe of the number that have been made and given to hurting children in our community. The dedication and expertise of the people and CARES is also awesome! To the doctors and staff there I can only be thankful for your presence in the lives of our children. I really hope to see you on December 5th. You & your friends will have a great time!
