Comforting Kids Network is an Oregon non-profit organization dedicated to providing just what the name implies: comfort to children in peril. Quilts For Kids is the part of the network that implements our goal by providing quilts to children seen at CARES NW.

CARES NW -Child Abuse Response and Evaluation Services- sees over 1400 kids a year from area hospitals, physicians’ offices, and state and county family services. Here the kids are examined and interviewed and recommendations are made for each child’s best interest. As of November 2007, over 7000 quilts have been taken to CARES NW. These quilts are made by volunteers who donate their time, talent and materials.

Again we have some truly wonderful items for the live auction and the raffle. JillMarie Wiles will again be our auctioneer…this will make her 6th year with us! She’s entertaining as well as the best auctioneer ever!! Julianne Johnson will be our Mistress of Ceremony. She is a grammy-award winning singer and entertainer…last year she and JillMarie were a hoot together! The Luncheon will again be held at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Come at 11:00 to view the items, have a drink and chat with your friends. The raffle starts at noon with the live auction next. Net proceeds benefit CARES Northwest, an assessment center for abused and neglected children, and Quilts For Kids, an Oregon 501(c)(3) which provides fabric and batting to volunteers who make quilts for the kids seen at CARES throughout the year. Each year QFK provides about 1,000 quilts to these physically and sexually abused kids.

Quilts For Kids has been taking quilts for the children seen at CARES for 11 years! In that time almost 8,000 children have received quilts made by the amazing quilters in our community. One of my goals when founding QFK was that ALL the quilts go to kids in our own community. CARES Northwest is our home. The dedication of the quilters is mind-boggling! There are dozens of quilters who have been making quilts for these children since the beginning! I am truly in awe of the number that have been made and given to hurting children in our community. The dedication and expertise of the people and CARES is also awesome! To the doctors and staff there I can only be thankful for your presence in the lives of our children. Please visit the link to CARES this website provides.

I really hope to see you on December 5th. You & your friends will have a great time!

Here’s an update of the November 30, 2007 Luncheon Auction & Raffle held at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Quilts For Kids and CARES Northwest presenting:

Our gross amount was over $50,000! The item going for the most was the Evening with Julianne Johnson & Friends. There were two women hotly bidding and Julianne was generous beyond belief! She added another evening so each of the bidders bought an Evening with Julianne Johnson & Friends! Each evening went for over $2,000.00! It was great fun! There were surprises when some of the quilt items brought more than expected. The raffle made over $4,000.00 and some very happy people went home with what they wanted. The MAC ballroom was beautifully decorated, the table settings were divine and the food truly delicious! Nadia and Teri Nowak gave each attendee a copy of their book A Bird in Hand about the hummingbird who stayed with their family for part of a winter. It is beautifully illustrated by Teri. Teri also gave an original painting for the auction.
