Quilts For Kids NewsletterSpring 2004Update: The last week-end in September, 2003, Quilts For Kids and CARES Northwest had a booth at the at the Northwest Quilt Expo. The QFK Community Raffle Quilt was on display, a lovely blue and white version of Sandy Ray's 'Heart to Heart'. That quilt got people to stop at our booth, and then learn about the CARES Northwest program, as well as get information from Quilts For Kids about how to participate as a volunteer to make quilts. Many people had heard about CARES Northwest, many had not. Of course, we never know where the ripples in the pond will go. The booth was 'womaned' by volunteers from both organaizations. On December 4, 2003, our Quilts That Care Luncheon took place at Tualatin Country Club in Tualatin, Oregon. We had 260 guests! CARES Northwest has a new informational video that Quilts For Kids participated in, and it was shown for the first time that day. It depicts a young woman (and her mother) who went through the CARES NW program after her mother discovered that the girl had be sexually abused by her step-father. The story of Quilts For Kids was woven throughout the narrative. There was hardly a dry eye in the place! JillMarie was our fabulous auctioneer once again! She had the whole room in the palm of her hand, and the result of the auction of 12 quilts and the raffle of 8 quilts will help tremendously in keeping QFK and CARES NW doing the work we do to help children. Many thanks to all the wonderful quilters who donated their time, talent, and money to make 20 great quilts! Without them, this event just wouldn't happen! The room was beautifully decorated for Christmas...our tables were gorgeous! We had theme tea pots with coordinating hand-made tea cozies in the middle of each one for a silent auction that went on throughout the event. This is a wonderful event...returning attendees say it kicks off the Christmas season in the best possible way. The Luncheon for 2004 will be on December 3. Tickets are $40.00, $20.00 of which is tax-deductible, and can be purchased through this web-site or at CARES NW, or The Pine Needle in Lake Oswego...503-635-1353. Our space is limited, so buy your tickets as soon as they go on sale. I will let you know through this web-site when they do. To date I have taken 2,500 to CARES Northwest! My goal is another 500 by year's end. You can help! Kits are available free of charge at The Pine Needle and at Quilting Delights. All you have to do is make the quilts and get them back to the stores. I have notebooks at both places where you will note taking and returning the kits. Remember that if you make just one quilt this year, that's one child who got a quilt who wouldn't have without you! Thanks to all those who have contributed to the number of children who have received quilts! The staff at CARES NW appreciates being able to give a vulnerable, hurting child something so beautiful and meaningful. They tell of kids who immediately wrap themselves in the quilt of their choosing and parents who are amazed that there are people who would give such a gift of love to kids they will never meet. I am amazed also........thank you so much! Thanks so much for visiting our web-site and for your support of Quilts For Kids! |
